Axis Kampfgruppe Axis Re-enactors:
I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who put forth an effort to make last year’s event the success that it became. I was awestruck at the work you all did. My special thanks go out to those of you who helped make some of our ideas materialize in ways I could never have imagined. I am confident that you will all work to maintain the momentum and forever challenge yourselves to sharpen your impressions.
On Thursday evening, I will host an officers’ reception at the Café for Axis Re-enactor Officers with the rank of Lieutenant and above. Uniform will be at least Walking-Out Dress or your best Service Dress. On our agenda will be several issues, including our continuing quest for enhanced military decorum, increased authenticity and the impact these issues have on the billeting assignments in Area 12.
Billeting assignments for Axis re-enactors at this event are done by our Chief of Staff, Spence Waldron. This will continue to be the case and he will retain his autonomy to make and control these assignments. Continuing in 2012 will be an application process for the use of the NCO rooms in the barracks. Especially in the case of a barracks building housing more than one unit, ANY unit wishing to make use of one of these rooms will be required to apply for it in advance. Only the approved applications will be accepted and lengthy diatribes espousing unit prowess will be disregarded. Units will detail on these applications their proposed use of these rooms and Spence’s assignments will be final and at his discretion.
Effective immediately, only authentic WWII Axis re-enactor units will be assigned to Axis barracks buildings in Area 12. The goal is to create the most authentic WWII Axis area possible, while allowing the less authentic units or those who do not wish to develop an authentic atmosphere to billet in overflow Area 13. Axis units assigned to Area 12 are also required to attend daily morning formations. Units will assemble at 07:30, with officer call immediately following. Formations are mandatory as of Thursday morning and continue through Saturday. Units who do not participate in morning formations, regardless of their size or tenure, will be put on the Area 13 billet list.
Unit commanders will be expected to submit DAILY personnel and asset reports to HQs. These are due at officers’ call and will be collected by the Chief of Staff.
Finally, there has been a significant and dramatic reduction in Field Police presence and participation at this event. This cannot continue. I encourage any and all authentic Field Police re-enactors to begin assembling their impressions and plan on participation at FIG 2011. This is a real and thankless job but is vital to the workings of the event. In a manner similar to the administration of period vehicle operators, meetings will be conducted on site in order to facilitate the organization and deployment of Field Police at the event. Re-enactors who intend to perform Field Police duties should check in at Axis Headquarters as soon as possible upon arrival and report to Axis Provost Marshall.
